PROGRAM ENCOURAGES RESIDENTS TO RECYCLE

Erie County will join the rest of the nation Nov. 15 in celebrating America Recycles Day, an annual campaign marking its eighth year.

The program encourages Americans to recycle and buy recycled products. Locally, the county's Department of Environment and Planning has been working with schools to encourage educators to discuss the "three R's" -- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle -- with students.

Eight Western New York schools with the most signed student pledges to recycle will win an ice cream party from Perry's Ice Cream and Wegmans. All county residents who sign a pledge card will be eligible to win a new Ford Escape Hybrid sport utility vehicle or other prizes in a random drawing Dec. 1.

Pledge forms will be available in the lobbies of the Rath County Office Building, 95 Franklin St., and Buffalo City Hall, 65 Niagara Square, the week of Nov. 15. Forms also are available at www.americarecyclesday.org.
