Featherweight, a local group dedicated to awareness and prevention of eating disorders, will hold a fashion show Friday as part of a fund-raising event.

The Heather Begeny Memorial Fashion Show will begin at 7 p.m. in the Sphere Entertainment Complex at 681 Main St. Also on the program will be entertainment, speakers and a silent auction.

The event is named for Begeny, a local 22-year-old woman who died in March 2003 after battling anorexia.

Speakers at the event will include Assemblyman Sam Hoyt, D-Buffalo, and Pat Webdale, the mother of Kendra Webdale, a Fredonia woman killed in New York City by a mentally unstable man.

Debbie Begeny, Heather's mother and a founder of Featherweight, said that half of the proceeds from the event will be used to help patients at Avalon treatment centers -- a local eating disorder treatment center -- pay for out-of-pocket expenses. Organizers also hope to start a Heather Begeny scholarship fund at Buffalo State College, she said.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door.
