Forward into the past! Sunday evening, the varied and accomplished ensemble that calls itself Musica Reservata performs at Canisius College. The group was founded 25 years ago and it includes soprano Cristen Gregory, violinist Ansgarius Aylward, flutist Marlene Witnauer, oboist Paul Schlossman, cellist Bryan Eckenrode and harpsichordist Jane Cary.
The program takes the audience back several hundred years. Johann Christian Bach, known as the "London Bach" because he built his career in the English capital, is represented and so is another early 18th century composer, Johann Gottlieb Janitsch. Gregory will also sing a selection of Baroque arias. And past and present come together with "Six Elizabethan Songs" by the 20th century composer Dominic Argento.
The concert is free and takes place at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Canisius College's Montante Cultural Center.
