A Toronto man was treated for a non-life-threatening bullet wound to his leg Wednesday after being shot during a hunt for deer, Niagara Regional Police reported.
Georgios Karavas, 57, was with a group of eight men, hunting in a wooded area off 5955 Regional Road Twenty in Smithville when the accident occurred.
Police said two men in the group spotted a deer leaving a wooded area. Each man, armed with a 12-gauge shotgun, took aim and fired a single shot.
Immediately after the shots rang out, Karavas realized he had been shot in the left calf muscle. He was transported by ambulance to Hamilton General Hospital for treatment. He was later released.
