WOMAN KILLED BY TRUCK IS IDENTIFIED BY POLICE

Buffalo police have identified a 74-year-old woman who was killed Tuesday night when she was struck by a construction company pickup truck as she crossed Porter Avenue, near Normal Avenue and Symphony Circle.

Joan Kinney, of Normal Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene, just feet away from her home.

The driver of the pickup was Merritt G. Hanson, 27, of Pleasant Avenue, Hamburg. Police said no charges are expected.

Lt. Kevin Barberg of the Accident Investigation Unit said Hanson struck the woman just after 6 p.m. when he was heading east on Porter.

"He was driving down a dark street and he really didn't see her," said Barberg. "It's one of those unfortunate things."

Police at the scene said the collision sent the victim airborne and she landed in the middle of the street, where another motorist drove over her and fled.
