The girls soccer game of the day almost turned into the game of the day and night. Williamsville East and Williamsville South played four overtimes -- two 10-minute periods and two five-minute periods -- before East came away with a 1-0 victory in the Class A semifinal. East was the third seed while South was second.
Joelle Salvo finally ended the deadlock at 1:37 of the fourth overtime. She scored on a direct free kick from 30 yards. Molly Bojanek had nine saves for her 13th shutout of the season.
Next up for Williamsville East: top-seeded Grand Island, which advanced to Saturday's final with a 4-0 win over fifth-ranked Albion. Allie Weiser of the Vikings had her 16th shutout of the season.
Class AA: Carey Mallison and Amanda Kindsia had two goals each while Alexa Wisel had five saves in second-seeded Williamsville North's 5-0 victory over third-seeded Hamburg. The Spartans will play fourth-seeded Clarence in Saturday's final. The Red Devils received two goals from Liz Manocchio, and Liz Stein had a shutout (14 saves) in a 3-0 win over top-ranked Lockport.
Class B: Top-seeded City Honors was surprised by ninth-ranked East Aurora, 1-0, in double overtime in the quarterfinals. Ryan Myers scored the game's lone goal. . . . Roy-Hart, the fifth seed, received two goals from Nate Hull in upending fourth-seeded Lackawanna, 4-2. . . . Jeremy George had the hat trick as Holland, the second seed, cruised past seventh-seeded Southwestern, 7-0. . . . Third-seeded Wilson beat sixth-seeded Fredonia, 3-1, as Joe Moberg, Ryan Ross and Matt Wass scored goals.
Class C: Dan Green scored the lone goal in fifth-seeded Frewsburg's 1-0 win over fourth-seeded Maple Grove in the quarterfinals. That earned Frewsburg a date with top-seeded Allegany-Limestone, a 3-1 winner over Salamanca, in the semifinal Saturday. Zach Eaton, Kyle Crisafulli and Pete Coat had the A-L goals. . . . Third-seeded Panama received goals from Zac Camarata and Clayton Phillips 36 seconds apart in a 2-1 win over No. 6 Portville. ~
Class C: Westfield won the sectional title with a four-game win over Randolph. Amy Bertrando had 14 service points for the winning Wolverines.
Class D: Justina Troutman had 21 kills as Pine Valley defeated Forestville in five games to take the sectional championship.
Monsignor Martin Association: Top-seeded St. Mary's of Lancaster received 13 digs from Amy Jeary in a three-game win over Mount Mercy in the semifinals.
The Lancers will draw second-seeded Nardin in the finals Monday.
Sophomore Hannah Kam had 14 kills for the Gators in a three-game win over Sacred Heart.
Class A: Top-seeded Williamsville North received goals from Sarah Doster, Stephanie Sass, Chantae Miller and Claire Hourihan in a 4-0 semifinal win over Clarence. Next up for the Spartans is Orchard Park. The Quakers, seeded second, went to overtime to beat No. 3 Lancaster, 3-2. Aimee Snyder scored her second goal of the game at 5:48 into overtime to win it.
