A 40-year-old Buffalo woman who was reported missing from her family's Port Colborne cottage two weeks ago was found dead on the Lake Erie shoreline, Niagara Regional Police said Wednesday. Police said foul play is not suspected.
Maria Repec, of Mayfair Lane, had been vacationing in a cottage on Fire Lane 2. On Oct. 20, her family noticed she was missing and contacted police.
Sunday, a person walking along the beach found the body on the shoreline, near Lorraine Road and Fire Lane 2, on the east side of Port Colborne.
A Niagara Regional Police spokesman, Constable Richard Geady, said Wednesday that the woman's identity was confirmed. He did not release autopsy results.
According to the department's missing-person poster, Repec may have had characteristics of "depression or behave in an irrational manner."
