Bernard Emerling, a retired dairy farmer, died Monday in Mercy Hospital. He was 87.
The Springville resident was a trustee of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Oregon and a member of the Grange, the Western New York Snowmobile Club and the Western New York Ayrshire Club.
Mr. Emerling was a life member of the Boston Volunteer Fire Company and was active on the Sire Selection Committee of Eastern Artificial Insemination.
He was a past director of the Erie County Farm Bureau, the Erie County Soil and Water Conservation District and Cornell Cooperative Extension.
His hobbies included music, riding his all-terrain vehicle and participating in the Boston Kazoo Band.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, the former Angeline Brenner; three sons, Norman and George, both of Clarence, and James of Springville; three daughters, Mary Meyer of Springville, Linda O'Shea of Syracuse and Sharon Fry of Rochester; 20 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered today in St. Mary's Church, New Oregon. Burial was in the church cemetery.
