Cheektowaga will have a new assessor in January.
Brian M. Hess, who has been North Tonawanda city assessor for nearly 20 years, was appointed to the same post in Cheektowaga by the Town Board on Monday night.
"My goals and objectives are to maintain equitable assessments, educate the taxpayers and bring accountability back to the assessor's office," Hess said.
His appointment is effective Jan. 5, and he was given until July 5 to move into the town to comply with the residency requirement. Hess will be paid $68,000.
William Conway retired nearly two years ago but has been working part time as town assessor.
