QUEEN OF ENGLAND LAYS WREATH AT WAR MEMORIAL

Queen Elizabeth II of England laid a wreath at Germany's national war memorial Tuesday during a state visit underlining the two countries' post-World War II reconciliation and the urgency of efforts to combat climate change.

President Horst Koehler received the queen and her husband, Prince Philip, with military honors at the baroque Charlottenburg palace, the German head of state's temporary headquarters.

Wearing a mint-green coat and matching hat, the queen smiled as she posed for photographs with Koehler and his wife, Eva, briefly greeting well-wishers waving British flags. The queen also met with Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and a group of German and British teenagers.
