County Executive Joel Giambra has again displayed his neighborhood bully side. First he threatened to charge towns without police forces for Sheriff's Department patrols. Then he threatened to cut county snowplow services in surrounding municipalities. In typical bully fashion, he backed down once the kids in the neighborhood -- local town supervisors -- ganged up on him.
Now he is threatening to cut the budget of the Erie County Public Library System by more than 50 percent, in essence shutting down the system. He knows residents will not tolerate this, and he knows how to get media spin by pulling such tactics. He's like a spoiled toddler, trying to get his own way. It appears that Giambra is running around County Hall, looking for the most sensitive areas to cut, in order to have his way -- the increase in the sales tax. This, of course, is so reasonable -- increasing taxes in one of the highest taxed counties in the state. Look at the influx of people moving here!
