Junior striker Natalie Gregorski scored off a breakaway at the 10-minute mark to give Williamsville South a 1-0 win over Iroquois in Saturday's Section VI Class A girls soccer quarterfinals.
Junior Michelle Fridey earned the shutout with four saves for the Billies (16-1-1), one of three Williamsville teams to make the sectional semifinals -- Williamsville East also advanced in Class A, while Williamsville North won in Class AA.
Gina Sobotka netted a hat trick to pace Williamsville East in a 6-0 win over Pioneer. Molly Bojanek recorded her 11th shutout for the Flames (16-1-3), who took a 3-0 lead in the opening nine minutes. Sobotka scored two of the early goals, while Jenny Griffin had the other.
East will play at neighbor Williamsville South in Wednesday's 2:30 p.m. semifinal. The teams tied, 1-1, in a nonleague game this season.
In the other Class A quarterfinals, Alicia Barnaby scored three goals and Jessica Remmes added two as defending champion Grand Island rolled to a 7-0 win over Lake Shore. Ellie Weiser had four saves for her 13th shutout of the year for the Vikings (16-1-3), who advance to host Niagara-Orleans champion Albion.
Junior forward Lisa Skrypnik had two goals and two assists as Albion (17-2-1) posted a 4-0 win over Springville. Catherine DiBella and Kylie Armstrong also scored. Madyson Lubba recorded eight saves in the shutout.
Class AA quarterfinals: Katy Ryan scored the game-winning goal for Hamburg in a 2-1 win over Orchard Park. Erin Zahariev also scored for the Bulldogs (14-4-1), who will play Wednesday at defending champion Williamsville North.
Seniors Jessica Lee and Amanda Kindzia scored off corner kicks to give Williamsville North (15-3-2) a 2-0 win over Jamestown. Shannon Algoe had the corner kick that was converted by Lee 10 minutes into the game. In the 12th minute of the second half, Carrie Mallison's corner was converted by Kindzia. Alexa Wisel earned the shutout.
Junior Dani Radlich had two goals, giving her a team-leading 17, and senior Cara Buscaglia had two assists as fourth-seeded Clarence advanced with a 4-2 win over fifth-seeded Kenmore West. Liz Stein had nine saves for the Red Devils (14-6-0), who will face top-seeded Lockport.
Eleven players scored for Lockport in a 12-0 shutout of Hutch-Tech. Jocelyn Pecoraro had two goals for the Lions (17-3), who led, 11-0, at halftime. Rachel Miendl and Maria Dembrow combined for the shutout.
Class D semifinals: Ellicottville and North Collins cruised into the final by a combined 19-0 total.
The Eagles, who have won 18 of the last 19 Section VI Class D titles, cruised past Hinsdale, 10-0, as Morgan Prentice, Christina Hallick and Lindsay McNell scored two goals each. DeAnna Lawton had six goals and one assist as North Collins (10-5-1) stormed past daVinci, 9-0. The Class D final is 5 p.m. Friday at Jamestown High School.
IAC Championship: Elizabeth Atkinson scored twice during regulation and added a penalty kick during a 3-0 shootout that gave West Seneca Christian a 3-2 win over Christian Central for the school's fifth straight title. Christian Central tied the game with three minutes left in regulation. Rachel Hedges and Maria Lopez also scored in the shootout for West Seneca Christian (7-4-1).
