First of all, let me say that I think Jerry Rice is one of -- if not the -- best receivers to ever play the game. But what he's doing now is sad to see. He can still play, and he has kept in great condition as he always has. But he will be 42 soon and still thinks he's 30 and back with the 49ers in their, and his, heyday.
A few years ago, Andre Reed still wanted to be the featured receiver for the Bills. He pouted, went to Washington, was their fourth receiver and finally had sense enough to retire. At this point, Jerry should be content being a team's third or fourth receiver and be glad he is still able to play in the NFL.
Overstaying your career is one thing. Some players want to still play instead of going out on top so people will always remember their greatness. But expecting to relive it is asking too much.
