A 27-year-old man has been charged with killing his infant son by hitting and shaking him until he stopped crying, police said.
Nicholas Morris was charged Friday with second-degree murder and assault in the death of his 15-day-old son, Duncan.
Morris was watching Duncan Thursday night when he struck the baby in the face and violently shook him for 20 seconds until he stopped crying, authorities said.
When Duncan became unresponsive, Morris took the child to a neighbor, who called 911.
The infant did not have a heartbeat when he was taken to the Adirondack Medical Center. He was later airlifted to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt., where he died.
Morris, who shared an apartment with the baby's mother, was home alone with Duncan at the time, Franklin County District Attorney Derek Champagne said.
Morris was sent to Franklin County Jail without bail.
