Three Hospice Hope, Care, Dignity awards will be presented at the fourth "Harvest Festival: A Celebration of Hospice, Friends and Family" Nov. 12 in Adam's Mark Hotel. Douglas and Elizabeth Swift are chairmen of the Hospice benefit event. She is a board member of Hospice Foundation of Western New York, affiliate of Center for Hospice & Palliative Care.

Wine tasting will precede a gourmet dinner, auction and the awards ceremony.

One of the awards will be given to Wegmans for its "charitable reach that extends into education, health care, human and social services, arts and culture and youth services." The company was a sponsor of Hospice's inaugural Memorial Walk, in which 2,000 walkers participated in May. The company also was host at the post-walk picnic and provided advertising and promotion for the event valued at over $10,000.

Dona and Mike King will receive an award for volunteerism after a personal experience with Hospice. Dona devotes at least 20 hours a week to the organization, scheduling greeter positions at Mitchell Campus and recruiting volunteers for related projects, including the spring bouquet sales, memorial walks, Playhouse Projects and the Harvest Festival. Mike and his employees at King Express load and unload their trucks with supplies for all Hospice special events.

Also to receive an award is Ciminelli Development Co. for being a sponsor of the foundation's Playhouse Project for the past two years. The project involves building and decorating deluxe miniature homes that are auctioned for the benefit of Hospice's Essential Care Program. Each playhouse is unique and is sponsored by a local construction company or business. The auctions, held at cocktail parties for which tickets are sold, have raised nearly $250,000.

More than 500 patients are cared for daily by the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care's programs that include Hospice Buffalo, Hospice Buffalo House at Mitchell Campus, Home Care Buffalo, Caring Hearts Home Care and Life Transitions Center.

Principal sponsors of the festival are City View Properties, WIVB-TV, Business First and Buffalo Law Journal. Tickets are $150 each and corporate tables of 10 are $2,000. Tickets are $100 each to win a 2004 Jaguar X-type 3.0 from West Herr Jaguar or a cash award of $25,000. Only 1,000 tickets will be issued. Also to be offered is an Italy travel package that includes a tour of wine estates and accommodations at luxury villas.
