I would like to make two points regarding the expansion of Pano's restaurant. First, as recently as two years ago, the building housed a pastry shop, a hair salon and rental units. The building has been well maintained and functioning for most of the nine years I've lived in this neighborhood. It is in a sorry state now, with windows broken and Pano Georgiadis claiming it's too difficult to save. How many times have we heard this in Buffalo? A landlord lets a viable building become so far gone that the only "solution" is demolition. How many more buildings must we lose?
Second, I have been a regular at Pano's for years. The menu includes a plea to support locally owned businesses. How hypocritical that he is not willing to give back to the neighborhood that has brought him so much success. I will not be returning to Pano's until I know the Atwater House is safe.
