More than $1 million in pledges were returned Friday to the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County for the 2004 Community Care Campaign.
As of Friday morning, pledges totaled more than $8.2 million.
Friday's pledges included $519,243 from Wegmans Buffalo Division, whose employees also have volunteered in various capacities for the agency. "Time after time, the hard-working people at Wegmans find a way to give back to the communities their markets serve," said Arlene F. Kaukus, president of the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County.
Blue Cross/Blue Shield reported pledges totaling $425,823; Cannon Design, $16,364; Charter School for Applied Technologies, $3,426; Marsh Inc., $3,697; and UPS, $154,891.
Representatives of the annual State Employee Federated Appeal also delivered pledges Friday. They were: Housing and Community Renewal, $4,264; Thruway Authority, $9,200 to date; State Insurance Fund, $10,000 to date; Empire State Development, $4,056; and Buffalo Psychiatric Center, $46,727.
