Sophia Wasko, a onetime employee of two local paper mills, died Friday in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Home after a long illness. She was 94.
Mrs. Wasko was born Sophia Nowak in Niagara Falls, where she attended school.
In the 1940s, she worked at the former Ralston Paper Mill on Quay Street in Niagara Falls. In the 1950s, Mrs. Wasko was employed at the former Hubbs & Howe Paper Co. in Cheektowaga.
She moved from Niagara Falls to Wilson in 1969 and to Lewiston in 1995. She entered the nursing home in 2002.
Mrs. Wasko was a former member of the Echo Club in Niagara Falls and of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Wilson. She liked to garden.
Her husband of 55 years, Michael, died Sept. 29, 1985.
Survivors include her son, Frank M. of Lewiston; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Town of Niagara. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
