POPULAR LEROY EATERY IS DESTROYED IN BLAZE

The Creekside Inn, a popular downtown restaurant, was destroyed by fire early Friday shortly after it closed.

About 100 firefighters from LeRoy and area volunteer companies fought the blaze throughout the night. Despite their efforts, the building's interior was gutted and part of the roof collapsed.

The restaurant, which overlooked Oatka Creek, was in the basement of a historic building topped by two floors of offices. It had been operated for several years by Philip Tooze.

Crews were called back later Friday to the smoldering ruins. The cause was still undetermined.
