GAS STATION WORKER CHARGED IN FAKED HOLDUP

A Derby gas station attendant was charged with larceny and falsely reporting an incident after he allegedly faked a robbery Tuesday night at the Derby Stop and Gas, Evans police reported.

Benjamin Brant, 24, of Evans, told police he was assaulted and robbed of $600 just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. When he was reinterviewed Thursday by detectives, they said Brant admitted he made up the robbery because "he was in need of cash to pay some bills," according to Evans Police Detective Ernest Masullo and Lt. Samuel DeJohn.

An Evans resident for about a year, Brant has a lengthy record, police said.
