I am disappointed that Channel 29 took part in the smear campaign against Sen. John Kerry by broadcasting what amounts to an attack ad. Even with Sinclair Broadcast's decision to show only a portion of the film, this nevertheless represents a breach of trust and an abuse of the public airwaves.
It does the public no good for unscrupulous companies to abuse the public airwaves in order to try to sway the presidential election. Had there not been a forceful outcry against Sinclair's action, it certainly would have gone ahead and broadcast the entire piece, calling it news.
Given this company's extreme, right-wing partisanship, and the large number of states and communities receiving their broadcasts, the era of big media that the Bush administration's FCC appointees are attempting to usher in is certainly becoming a worrisome thing. Our household will no longer watch any of the programming on Channel 29.
