Chautauqua County sheriff's deputies are investigating a rash of daytime burglaries over the last two weeks across the lakeshore portion of the county, officials said.

Six of the burglaries have occurred since Wednesday.

The break-ins are occurring in the towns of Ripley, Westfield, Pomfret, Dunkirk and Sheridan.

The burglars are gaining entry to homes by prying doors open or kicking them in during the day when people are at work. Police believe these burglaries could have been committed by the same individuals.

Burglars are taking small safes, jewelry, televisions, computers, cameras and other items, police said.

Sheriff's Department officials encourage anyone with information to contact their tip line at (800) 782-7463 or their department at 753-4498.

All calls will remain confidential and a $1,000 reward may be given.
