The stocks of companies with operations in the Buffalo area rose this week, led by International Steel Group.
The Buffalo Bloomberg Stock Index rose 5.20, or 2.5 percent, to 210.59 for the week. Forty-six stocks gained and 10 fell.
International Steel rose $7.25, or 24 percent, to $36.93, after U.K. billionaire Lakshmi Mittal said he would acquire the company for $4.5 billion to form the world's biggest steelmaker.
Among decliners,J.C. Penney Co. fell $3.61, or 9 percent, to $34.59.
Cooper Cameron Corp. dropped $3.79, or 7.3 percent, to $48.35.
The Buffalo Bloomberg Stock Index reached a 52-week high of 214.85 on Oct. 6, and its 52-week low of 183 on Oct. 29, 2003.
