Mary Margaret Podbielski , who was a waitress at local restaurants before retiring in 1970, died Tuesday after a brief illness in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda. She was 92.
Born Mary Batarla in Niagara Falls, she attended St. John de LaSalle School.
Mrs. Podbielski enjoyed roses, fruit trees and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed playing cards and Scrabble.
She formerly worked as a nanny for a number of years, then worked in production at Carborundum Co. and CertainTeed.
Her husband of 60 years, Emil, died in 2001.
Survivors include three daughters, Rita Warrick and Joan Domin, both of Niagara Falls, and Marie Marwedel of Lockport; a sister, Julie Cuddahee of Thurmont, Md.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John de LaSalle Catholic Church, 8469 Buffalo Ave.
