MANSLAUGHTER CHARGES FILED IN HUNTER'S DEATH

A man has been charged with second-degree manslaughter in the hunting-related death of his nephew.

John C. Boots, 45, of Massena, was arrested Wednesday in the shooting death of Mark A. Sharp, 40, of Norfolk. Boots was being held in the St. Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Authorities charged that Boots "recklessly" caused Sharp's death. Boots shot his nephew Tuesday evening with a Remington rifle while the two were hunting on state land.

Sharp was hit once in the chest and, despite Boots' efforts to get help, was pronounced dead in Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
