Yolanda Kondonassis takes a fiery, ambitious approach to the harp. Not for her any soft parlor sounds. Her latest recording is "The Romantic Harp," and it includes tangos and waltzes. Her next CD is "Debussy's Harp," a collection of impressionistic pieces.
But when she appears with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra this weekend, Kondonassis is going to tackle what some fans say she does best: Latin music. She'll be the soloist in Ginastera's Concerto for Harp and Orchestra, Op. 25. Guest conductor Fabio Mechetti will also lead the orchestra in Manuel de Falla's famous "Three Cornered Hat" and Villa-Lobos' "Bachianas Brasileiras No. 4."
The concert takes place at 8 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $25 to $64, with discounts available. For information, call 885-5000.
