Carolyn M. Wixom of Amherst, an office assistant and active United Methodist, died Tuesday, four days before her 66th birthday, after a brief illness.
Born Carolyn Masson in Evanston, Ill., she was a graduate of Ela-Vernon High School in Lake Zurich, Ill. She had a bachelor's degree in history from Miami University, Oxford Ohio.
A Buffalo-area resident since 1978, Mrs. Wixom had worked as an office assistant and receptionist at Millherst Construction in Getzville.
She was a member of Williamsville United Methodist Church, where she served on the stewardship, education and budget management committees. She also was involved in Christian education. She volunteered in the church office and was a past member of the choir and administrative council.
She also enjoyed doing handiwork and was an avid reader.
Mrs. Wixom was active in the Girl Scouts throughout her life and was a charter member of the Girl Scout Scholarship Fund. She received the Girl Scouts President's Award in 2003 from the Williamsville Service Unit. Among other awards for Scouting that she received were the Appreciation Pin and Council Award.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth K. Nunziato of Yardley, Pa., and Meg M. Lauer of Wexford, Pa.; a brother, George T. Masson Jr. of Kensington, Md.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Williamsville United Methodist Church, 5681 Main St. Entombment will be in the church columbarium.
