State troopers Thursday arrested Michael S. Collopy, 33, of Outwater Drive, on charges of felony grand larceny, criminal mischief and trespassing.
They said that Tuesday and Wednesday, Collopy stole 70 to 80 aluminum posts from the State Barge Canal and took them to David Dunn's Salvage, Middleport. Collopy received almost $1,000 for the posts, police said.
After Frank Langdon, maintenance supervisor for the Canal Authority , discovered the property was entered through a damaged gate, he reported the incident to state troopers.
Police said they located the posts in bins at Dunn's Salvage, which had Collopy's name as the seller.
He is scheduled to report to Lockport Town Court on Nov. 9.
