ARREST MADE IN CRIMES TERRORIZING CORNELL AREA

Police said Thursday they had arrested a man accused of terrorizing the Cornell University campus area by breaking into the homes and apartments of women and trying to sexually assault them.

Abraham J. Shorey of Ithaca was arrested Wednesday night after the victim of a weekend break-in identified him, Ithaca Police Chief Lauren Signer said. Shorey was being held on $5,000 bail.

Investigators say after they arrested Shorey -- dubbed the "Collegetown Creeper" -- on trespassing charges, he confessed he had been looking and breaking into people's homes.

Police attribute at least 18 break-ins to the creeper, who would appear inside women's bedrooms or had been seen peering through their windows.
