A Wilson man pleaded guilty Wednesday to drunken driving in a two-car crash that killed one woman and critically injured another.

Jason D. Jakubec, 22, of Haner Street, admitted to criminally negligent homicide, second-degree vehicular assault and a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated.

Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Sperrazza set sentencing for Dec. 22, when Jakubec could receive a maximum of 1 1/3 to four years in prison.

Defense attorney Michael S. Taheri said Jakubec was prepared to go to prison, but he hopes that 25 letters attesting to his client's good character will persuade the judge not to imprison him.

"He pleads because he accepts responsibility for his role in the accident," Taheri said, adding Jakubec had no prior record of criminal or traffic offenses.

Assistant District Attorney Theodore A. Brenner said Jakubec's blood alcohol content was 0.24 percent after the April 14 head-on crash on Ridge Road in Lewiston with a car driven by Kelly S. Chellino, 35, of Gasport.

Brenner said Chellino, whose blood alcohol content was measured at 0.10 percent, is awaiting trial in Lewiston Town Court on a misdemeanor driving while intoxicated count.

Chellino's car caught fire, and a passenger, Christina M. Jones, 18, of Lockport, was killed. Another passenger, Mary Sears, 21, of Burt, was critically injured.
