Ambush call ...
Surprise caller Howard Stern ambushed Federal Communications Commission Chairman Michael Powell during a San Francisco radio talk show this week, accusing him of nepotism, racketeering and possible retribution against the shock jock's employer, Infinity Broadcasting, for the phone call.

"You kind of sit there and you're the judge and the arbiter and you're the one who tells us what we can and can't say on the air and I really don't think you're qualified to be the head of the commission," Stern said. "Do you deny that your father got you this job?" he asked, referring to Secretary of State Colin Powell.

"I deny it exceedingly," responded Powell, who was a lawyer in the Justice Department's antitrust division before joining the FCC seven years ago and becoming chairman in 2001. "I think it's a little unfair that just because I have a famous father ... that you make an assumption that that's the only basis in which I serve in my position."

Ben and Jen, the sequel ...
Any doubts about Ben Affleck's rumored romance with Jennifer Garner were laid to rest last weekend after the couple were pictured snuggling in the VIP box at Fenway Park in Boston, reports

Affleck, a passionate Boston Red Sox fan, brought his new love along to watch his team take on the St. Louis Cardinals.

Until now the "Surviving Christmas" actor has worked hard to keep his relationship with Garner under wraps. The two first met on the set of the 2003 action flick "Daredevil," but they didn't start dating until earlier this year. And Affleck was anxious to avoid the kind of media frenzy that followed his failed romance with Jennifer Lopez. "It was a constant, oppressive siege," he said recently. "It's hard to make a relationship work under normal circumstances. I remember different engagement announcements on the cover of The New York Post that were right there with some headline about Saddam Hussein. I just thought, 'It's madness, true madness.'"
