An 80-year-old Erie, Pa., man was killed Wednesday afternoon when he apparently failed to stop at a toll barrier and crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer, according to state troopers.
The crash occurred at about 2:25 p.m. Troopers said the man "never slowed or took evasive action" before his 1999 Chevrolet crashed into the back of the trailer at the Ripley toll barrier of the State Thruway.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was uninjured.
The victim's name was withheld pending notification of family, police said.
