Joseph P. Tantillo Sr. of Lancaster, a self-employed heating and air-conditioning contractor, died Tuesday on a job site in Cattaraugus County after a sudden illness. He was 65.
Born in Buffalo, he served in the Army in Europe during the 1950s.
A past commander of Troop I Post 665, American Legion, Mr. Tantillo also was a member of the national American Legion and was a vice chairman of the board of governors and member of the Erie County commander's staff.
"He was a friend of all men," said his son Philip. "He could build and fix anything."
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, the former Mary Dueme; a daughter, Therese Aquilina of Lancaster; three sons, Philip J. of Elma, Joseph P. Jr. of Lancaster and Michael J. of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Teresa's Catholic Church, 1974 Seneca St.
