St. Joe's was the winner of the All-Catholic Championships in cross country Wednesday. The Monsignor Martin Association event was held in Delaware Park.

St. Joe's finished with 36 points to beat Canisius (42), followed by St. Francis (70) and Timon/St. Jude (93). Brad Bogdan of Canisius won the event on the 2 1/2 -mile course in 12:39.2.

Girls Volleyball

Class AA: Niagara Wheatfield, the No. 7 seed, stunned previously unbeaten Lockport (No. 2) in four games as sectional quarterfinal action took place across the region. The Falcons' Jessica Martinez sparked the upset with 18 kills. . . . Top-seeded Lancaster improved to 18-0 with a three-game win over No. 8 Sweet Home. Kristine O'Hara of the Redskins had 10 kills and three aces in the win. . . . No. 3 Clarence defeated sixth-seeded Frontier in four games. Stephanie Turner had 22 kills for the Red Devils. . . . No. 4 Kenmore West swept No. 5 Hamburg in three games. The Blue Devils were led by junior Wendy Stieger, who had 23 assists and nine aces.

Class A: Top-seeded Lake Shore improved to 14-0 with a three-game win over No. 8 Springville. Megan Sullivan and Maureen Tilert had 10 kills each for the Eagles. . . . Starpoint's Allie Matters had 23 kills as the No. 2 seed beat Lew-Port in three games. . . . Williamsville South, the No. 3 seed, cruised past Iroquois in four games. Senior Megan Farber had 11 kills in the win. . . . Olean, the No. 5 seed, took four games to beat Amherst. The Huskies' Michelle Spears had 14 blocks and 13 kills in the win.

Class B: Top-ranked City Honors swept past Fredonia in three games, as Lorraine Wingenbach had 17 kills for the Centaurs. . . . No. 2 Newfane swept No. 7 Medina; the Panthers were led by Whitney Hale's nine kills and 10 digs. . . . Eden's Jodi Smith had 16 kills and Shannon Hennigan added 34 assists as the No. 4 Raiders beat fifth-seeded Alden in five games. . . . No. 3 Falconer ousted Wilson in four games.

Class C: Westfield's Kris Ossman had 45 assists as the top-rated Wolverines beat No. 9 Barker in three games. . . . Panama pulled off a four-game surprise on No. 3 Cattaraugus/Little Valley. Beth Crandle had 22 service points and 14 kills for the sixth-seeded Panthers. . . . Kiera Duckworth and Karry Barmore had 13 spikes each in fourth-ranked Cassadaga Valley's three-game win over JFK. The winning Cougars were the fourth seed while JFK was fifth. . . . Second-seeded Randolph swept past Chautauqua Lake in three games.

Class D: Brocton, the eighth seed, with only a 6-11 record entering the match, stunned No. 1 daVinci in four games. Carlyn Petrella had 26 service points and 11 spikes for the Bulldogs. . . . Justina Troutman's 27 spikes and 13 kills sparked No. 6 Pine Valley's four-game upset of third-seeded Ellicottville. . . . Third-seeded Ripley downed No. 11 Sherman in four games. Ripley's Sam Eimers had 16 hits, 16 kills and 16 service points. . . . Kelsey Sherwood had 14 service points as No. 5 Forestville beat fourth-seeded West Valley in three games.

Girls Soccer

Monsignor Martin Association: Kelly Halsinger of Nardin scored the game-winning goal in a 3-2 win over Sacred Heart in a playoff semifinal. Next up for the top-seeded Gators is Mount Mercy, which topped Mount St. Mary's, 3-1. Caitlyn O'Rourke, Peggy Klavoon and Molly Webster scored for Mount Mercy.

Boys soccer

Monsignor Martin Association: Christian Bobak had the game's only goal on a corner kick as Canisius edged St. Francis, 1-0, in double overtime in a playoff semifinal. Canisius will play St. Joe's -- a 10-0 winner over Timon/St. Jude in the other semifinal -- in Sunday afternoon's final at the West Seneca Soccer Complex.
