Sandra E. Ruth, of Hamburg, a retired graphic artist, died Saturday in Waterfront Health Care Center after a lengthy battle with multiple sclerosis. She was 60.
Born Sandra Forsythe in Brooklyn, she grew up in Bethlehem, Pa., and was a 1963 graduate of the Traphagen School of Fashion in New York City with a degree in fashion and illustration. She came to the Buffalo area from Bethlehem in 1969.
For 17 years, Mrs. Ruth worked as a graphic artist for Trench Manufacturing in Buffalo, adapting sports-related designs for printing on fabrics. She retired because of health in 1991.
She was a member of the Western New York-Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Water Valley Art Association.
Her pastels won prizes at area art festivals. She also enjoyed antiquing, bottle collecting and etchings.
Surviving are three sons, Todd B. of Buffalo, Scott P. of Newton, Mass., and Mark C. of Hamburg; her mother, Eileen H. Forsythe of Buffalo; a brother, Cornelius "Neil" Forsythe of Brookline, Mass.; and a grandson.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Amigone Funeral Home, 1132 Delaware Ave. Burial will be in Forest Lawn.
