Joseph A. Schmid of North Tonawanda, a retired carpenter, died of cancer Saturday in his home. He was 76.
A native of Buffalo, Mr. Schmid worked as a carpenter for Tosch Builders, Cleveland Hill Plumbing and Zepp & Sons before retiring in 1995.
He was a member the Knights of Columbus in the Town of Tonawanda and the Tonawanda American Little League, where he was both a board member and a coach.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, the former Mae Lindner; two daughters, Carolyn Sember and Christine Evans, both of the Town of Tonawanda; three sons, Joseph of Cheektowaga, Martin of Florence, S.C., and Michael of Nunda; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Prayers were said today in Dengler Funeral Home, 2070 Eggert Road, Amherst, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Edmund's Catholic Church, Town of Tonawanda. Burial was in Elmlawn Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.
