A two-car accident Sunday afternoon at Hartland and Slayton Settlement roads sent three people to area hospitals, one with serious multiple injuries.

Mercy Flight was dispatched to the scene of the 2:58 p.m. crash and airlifted Ryan Reed, 24, of Buffalo, to Erie County Medical Center. Reed suffered leg, face and head injuries in the collision.

Niagara County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Grear said an SUV operated by Buffalo resident Patrick Michalak, 37, missed a stop sign while westbound on Slayton Settlement Road, striking a northbound minivan. Grear said Reed was ejected from the rear seat area of the SUV when it spun around following impact.

Michalak and a passenger, Sheila Thomas, 42, of Buffalo, were taken to ECMC via ambulance with unspecified injuries.

The driver of the van, Jock R. Bowler, 36, of Barker, was not injured. After the crash, police were unable to locate a dog that had been riding in the SUV.
