CRASH COSTS U.S. TEAM IN HEAD OF THE CHARLES

The Cambridge University Boat Club of England won the men's eights title after the U.S. national team crashed into a bridge at the 40th Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Mass.

The national team, representing the Princeton Training Center in New Jersey, had a comfortable lead but crashed into the Eliot Bridge about 400 meters from the finish line. The U.S. team -- winners of nine consecutive titles -- finished sixth.
