TWO REVAMPED WEB SITES RING IN THE BARGAINS

Two Web site overhauls could save you money.

The European Travel Commission has revamped its site (www.visiteurope.com), making it an even better resource. A link takes you to Hot Deals in Europe (everything from cruises to castle stays), and provides online booking as well as toll-free numbers for more information.

To celebrate the launch of it improved Web site (www.amtrak.com), Amtrak is offering a 10 percent discount of the lowest available fares for tickets booked online through Dec. 15.

To get the discount, enter H431 in the Promotion Code box during Step 2 of the booking process. Also helpful: Change fees have been eliminated.

Southwest Airlines has revived its double credit for Rapid Rewards members. The twist: Tickets must be purchased at www.southwest.com using a Visa card. Travel must be completed by Dec. 15. With the offer, four round trips will earn free travel.

Added incentive: Southwest currently has a sale through Oct. 31 with fares starting at $39 with a 14-day advance. Travel through March 31, but only flights before mid-December qualify for the double credits.

In a similar offer valid through Jan. 31, get double AirTran A Rewards credits when you book at www.airtran.com. Under the promotion, two round-trip flights will earn a free one-way ticket.

Families can ski this winter and enjoy free airfare for one child (12 or younger) per paying adult to any United Vacations ski destination, including Colorado, Canada, Utah, Montana, New Mexico and California/Nevada's Lake Tahoe.

The Kids Fly Free offer is valid for midweek travel Dec. 1 through Feb. 17. Book through a travel agent, at www.unitedvacations.com or at (888) 328-6877.

British Columbia's Whistler ski area already has snow on the ground. It's celebrating with a Stay & Ski package that includes five nights of lodging and a four-day lift ticket. The deal is valid throughout the 200 4/2 005 ski season. Rates start at $335 per person when booked by Oct. 31. Early bookers also can receive early-morning access to slopes. If warmth is what you want, more than 24 lodgings in the Florida Keys are offering specials to lure visitors after the hurricane season. They range from packages with unlimited golf at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, to properties offering $50-a-night rooms. Details: www.flakeys.com.

If you plan to meander around Texas, take advantage of nightly rates from $39 to $69 at 26 La Quinta properties in the state.

Available through Dec. 26, the rates include breakfast. Use promotion code TXTRAV when booking at www.lq.com or (866) 725-1661.
