An Alden teenager found Saturday in the sacristy of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Elma has been charged with burglary, Erie County sheriff's deputies said.
William C. Knab, 18, is accused of breaking into the church at 7580 Clinton St. at about 10 a.m. He fled when when the parish priest discovered him stealing chalices and other church property, according to Deputy Mark Tuczynski.
Tuczynski said he apprehended Knab near the church. In addition to burglary, Knab was charged with larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.
He was taken to the Erie County Holding Center pending arraignment in Elma Town Court.
