The Erie County Department of Senior Services urges seniors to apply early for Home Energy Assistance Program benefits. Due to the prospect of higher utility bills this winter, the Senior HEAP Office is accepting applications early so they can be processed ahead of the general public, officials report.
Applications have been mailed automatically to last year's HEAP recipients. First-time applicants aged 60 and older can call the Senior HEAP Hotline at 858-7870 during business hours to request an application. Details and information are available at the Senior Services Web site at www.erie.gov/depts/seniorservices.
HEAP assistance ranges from $40 to $400 a month and is based on monthly income.
A household of one can qualify for help if monthly income is less than $1,702. For a household of six, monthly income must be less than $4,320.
