WOMAN, 70, ATTEMPTS TO STOP WALLET-SNATCHER

A 70-year-old woman tussled with a man who tried to steal her wallet Friday afternoon in Summit Park Mall, State Police said.

The confrontation occurred just after 12:30 p.m., when the suspect, Tyrone Webb, 45, bumped into the victim in the Bon-Ton store and grabbed the wallet from her purse, police said.

Moments earlier, Webb was foiled by a mall employee as he attempted to steal a purse from a mall kiosk.

The woman, who grabbed Webb's jacket as she was shoved to the floor, managed to pull Webb down on top of her, police said. Webb fled on foot but was spotted by Trooper Joseph Raimondi in a Sears parking lot. Webb ran back inside the mall, but Raimondi captured him in a storeroom, police said.

Webb was arraigned in Wheatfield Town Court on grand larceny, robbery and resisting arrest charges. He was taken to Niagara County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, pending a court appearance Nov. 9.
