The Niagara Falls Police Department takes on the Niagara Falls Fire Department in a charity flag football game at 7 p.m. today in Sal Maglie Stadium, Hyde Park Boulevard. Tickets are $5 and are available to the public at the stadium. Refreshments and a 5 0/5 0 raffle also will be offered.
The rivalry between the two city departments is put to good use as they battle for the benefit of Jared Feathers, a 4-year-old boy injured last May in a lawnmower accident, and for the Niagara Falls Fire Department Toy Fund. Feathers' mother, Nicole, is a City Court clerk.
Coordinator Marian Santiago said this is the first year the departments have offered the charity event, but said they hope to continue the game annually.
The winning department will win both bragging rights and a trophy, Santiago said. She said a total of 49 police and fire department members plan to compete.
