GM POWERTRAIN GROUP HELPS FIGHT BREAST CANCER

Employees of the General Motors Powertrain plant in the Town of Tonawanda who are members of Local 774, United Auto Workers, raised nearly $55,000 for the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk Oct. 3 in downtown Buffalo, event organizers reported earlier this week. Nearly 1,000 employees and their family members and friends took part.

"We were striving to reach $35,000 to surpass last year's total," UAW local president Jim Kennedy said. "What an incredible feeling to see that we increased giving by over 50 percent."

Powertrain plant employees also did volunteer work on the Cancer Society's Hope Lodge earlier this year during the annual United Way Day of Caring.
