A Lackawanna family devasted by the deaths of a father and son in a house fire is hoping time and distance will help recovery.
But before she and her daughters leave town, Tyia Minor wants to say "thank you" for the outpouring of love and support that followed the Oct. 4 blaze.
Minor's husband, Edison, and 4-year-old son, Naasir, died in what investigators determined was an accidental fire that started on the stove of their Point Street home. The two girls were in school and their mother was at work when the fire started.
"I would like to thank everybody for everything," Minor said. "I appreciate all the love, all the kind gestures, all the donations."
Minor said she and her daughters stayed in a local hotel for about a week after the fire. After spending some time out of town, they have been staying with a cousin in this area.
Their immediate plans call for staying with family members in Kentucky.
The day before the fire, Minor found out that she is expecting a baby -- due in late April or early May. She said she and her husband had talked about the news before he died.
