The owner of a classic 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle reported stolen from the Walden Galleria parking lot late last month has been arrested for filing a false report, Cheektowaga police said Friday.
Detective Mark Jedd, the department's auto theft investigator, developed suspicions about the case and found that the security tapes showed no such vehicle at that date and time. He confronted the car's owner with his suspicions Thursday and learned that the vehicle instead was in Chautauqua County.
Jedd charged Gary Miller, 42, of Newfane, with felony insurance fraud and falsely reporting an incident.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department recovered the car in a field in the Town of Villenova.
