Barbara A. Schnell of Amherst, a retired Buffalo school administrator, died Wednesday in Sisters Hospital. She was 66.

A native of Lackawanna, she was a graduate of St. Mary's Seminary. She had a bachelor of arts degree from Rosary Hill College and a master's degree from the University at Buffalo.

During 35 years with the school district, Mrs. Schnell taught first grade at School 17; was a guidance counselor at Lafayette High School; director of the CETA program; supervisor in pupil personnel services; and principal of Hutchinson-Central Technical High School, Buffalo Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts and the Buffalo Vocational Technical Center.

Her family said her lifelong care for the education of children was punctuated by her infectious sense of humor.

She is survived by her sister, Marion Lyons of Amherst.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mark's Church, 401 Woodward Ave. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
