Anne C. Schmidt of West Seneca, a retired elementary school teacher, died Tuesday in Autumnview Manor, Hamburg, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was 82.
Born in Blasdell, the second-oldest of 11 children, the former Anne R. Carlin was a graduate of Blasdell High School and earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Buffalo State Teacher's College.
After two years of teaching in Wanakah Elementary School, she taught in Blasdell schools from 1945 to 1975, when she retired. Beloved by generations of students, she was honored as Teacher of the Year in 1968-69.
Mrs. Schmidt was a member the National Education Association and the National Audubon Society.
A conservationist and environmentalist, she enjoyed bird watching. She also was a bridge club member.
Her husband of 31 years, Warren G., died in 1989.
Surviving are four sisters, Dorothy Weigel of Boston, N.Y., Margaret Saunders of Peoria, Ariz., and Marie Buck and Rita Pohwat, both of Blasdell; and three brothers, Joseph Carlin of Campbell, James Carlin of Blasdell and Thomas Carlin of Eden.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. today in Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 3688 South Park Ave., Blasdell, after prayers at 9 in John J. Kaczor Funeral Home, 3450 South Park Ave., Blasdell. Entombment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Blasdell.
