2 WOMEN BANK ROBBERS SENTENCED TO PRISON

Two young Rochester-area women who robbed a Buffalo bank with a 2-year-old in their getaway car were sentenced to federal prison Friday.

District Judge John T. Elfvin sentenced Julie Heckman, 20, of Gates, to 27 months and Simone Miller, 20, of Rochester, to 41 months for stealing $27,000 from HSBC Bank at South Park Avenue and Abbott Road.

The two women drove from Rochester to South Buffalo on May 10, with Miller going inside and robbing the bank while Heckman waited in her car with her young son, Assistant U.S. Attorney Allison P. Gioia said.

After receiving a tip, FBI agents arrested the women about two weeks after the holdup and recovered $5,000. Elfvin ordered the two women to pay restitution to cover the rest, Gioia said.

"We know Simone Miller bought an inexpensive used car after the robbery, and the women said they went on shopping trips to the mall," Gioia said. "But aside from that, we don't know what happened to the rest of the money."
