TOPSOIL REMOVAL OK'D FROM EXPANSION PROJECT

Nearly 100,000 cubic yards of topsoil can be removed from the Woodlands Corporate Center expansion project, the Town Board decided this week.

The board voted to allow Calamar Enterprises to haul 99,870 cubic yards from its project site near Shawnee Road and Niagara Falls Boulevard.

Town Engineer Tim Walck, of Wendel Engineers, said the developer has complied with all fee requirements and will leave a minimum of 5 inches of topsoil on all pervious areas. Town Attorney Robert O'Toole agreed that the approval was an administrative move.

Topsoil removal is restricted in the town to help prevent drainage problems and protect new homeowners from having to buy back soil from developers.

The Woodlands project is a huge industrial park and housing project that is partially complete.
